Hello! My name is Jenny.
During college, I hosted a blog at this address about how to help protect the environment and live sustainably. However, after graduation, I was lucky enough to land a job in an environmental advocacy nonprofit. In addition to adjusting to the full-time work life, I spent so much time writing/thinking about environmental protection during the day that it didn’t appeal to me to come home and write about it even more. You’ll find that this issue will be worked into many posts on the ‘new’ blog, because it remains a big part of who I am.
I decided to adjust the topic of my blog to share my crazy, satisfying, hectic, adventurous life with you.
I hadn’t always been like this. In fact, I didn’t even know what a weekend warrior was until I became one. Part of the reason for this transition is that my partner in crime, Sam, cannot sit still. It’s a mental thing. When we starting dating in 2010, he introduced me to the busiest, craziest lifestyle I’d ever heard of and I immediately fell in love with it. And him I found that keeping active and experiencing new things made me the happiest and healthiest I’d ever been.
In John Krakauer’s words:
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
While “Weekend Warrior” may elicit thoughts of people way more hardcore than us, I think it describes us perfectly. Simply put, we do not waste a weekend and thus, our work weeks are usually pretty prescriptive: Monday- unpack and buy groceries; Tuesday/Wednesday- relax, see friends, plan for the weekend, obsess over the forecast; Thursday- pack, load up the car; Friday- head out, and get going.
It is sometimes hectic to be so busy all the time. I nearly loose it on Sam when we’re mid-drive home on Sunday nights and he asks to stop to climb rib mountain on the road bikes. But then we do, and I can’t help but love watching the sunset over Wausau, Wisconsin once again.
I am excited to introduce this life to people looking for ideas for weekend adventures, looking for fun ways to stay active, and to sympathize with fellow “warriors” who understand and equally love this busy, wonderful life.
Enjoy. And thank you for reading.
